Abran Las Ventanas (2023)

Abran Las Ventanas is a small work done with Gouache on bristol paper. This small painting captures a prominent memory from my childhood, my mom toasting tomatoes, chili peppers, and garlic for to make salsa. The smell of this process is quite strong and causes an uncomfortable dry feeling in the throats of those around. To combat this uncomfortable feeling, we open windows to let the smell out.

This piece is the winner of the Best of Show 2024 Award given by La Sierra University’s Brandstater Gallery.
