Ritual de Maiz (2025)
Harvested from the fields to fresh, warm tortillas, corn goes through many stages. Planting and harvesting corn has been second nature to my family for generations, but that line of work has ended with me. Growing up away from my culture has left me craving experiences I’ve only learned about through stories. By capturing this process permanently through this collection, I get to participate in a ritual that has fed every generation before me and will continue to feed generations after. This is my way of reconnecting with a tradition that once felt so foreign and honoring the hands that have passed it down.
Ritual de Maiz is the winner of the DART Award (2026) given by La Sierra University’s Brandstater Gallery.
